Hike & Gulet Cruise 2023
Marmaris – Lycia – Marmaris
10 – 17 June 2023

Cruising and walking the Lycian coast between Marmaris and Fethiye see the best of this wonderful coast by sea and on foot. Walk along tracks still used by shepherds today, most of which are so remote they can only be accessed from the sea. We explore trails only accessible from the sea, anchor in bays where Romans anchored their wooden ships, following their footsteps along now broken paths they created around 2AD, stumble upon ancient ruins and feast on fabulous food.

  Hamam top spice

We will hike on 4 or 5 days following goat trails, ancient paths and broad tracks; sometimes through lush pine forest and olive groves, other times along coastal trails with spectacular views.

Surely there’s no better way to explore the beautiful beaches and coves of the Turquoise coast than cruising and hiking.

Day 2 Cruise to Kumlubuk for our first walk in the mountains (2—3 hours)

Day 3 Our morning starts with a wonderful and varied walk to the village of Candir (3.5-4 hours) before boarding a river boat to see the ruins at Kaunos, bathe in the hot thermal baths and visit the protected Iztuzu beach, nesting ground of the Carretta Carretta Turtle, .

Day 4 Pretty walk in the mountains from Aga Limani with it’s ancient Roman village before arriving at the ruined Cleopatra’s Bath. (2-3 hours) In the afternoon we follow a low coastal path before rejoining the boat in the next bay.(2 hours)

Day 5 See the ancient burial tombs at Bedri Rahmi bay as we continue to follow the coast with wonderful views of the islands. (2-3 hours)

Day 6 A longer scenic walk with panoramic views from Inlice with an optional swim back to the boat at the end (4-5 hours).

Day 7 Discover more of Turkey as we tour the villages of Fethiye, see the ancient civilisations at Tlos, the abandoned village of Kayakoy and more.

Day 8 Say your goodbyes to the crew and your new friends in Fethiye.

*Cruise may operate in reverse. Direction of cruise will be confirmed no sooner than four weeks before departure and is subject to change at short notice (this is a rare occurence but adverse weather conditions can leave us with no choice).

Traditionally built wooden boats, our gulets have double and sometimes twin cabins for our walking trips of up to 14 people plus the Guide. They have sails although operate under motor for most of the trip to ensure we can keep to our schedule.

Each cabin has a private en-suite bathroom with home style toilet, shower cubicle and hairdryer. Cabins have a small wardrobe, underbed storage, window and bedside light. Electricity is available in cabins for charging mobile phones and cameras every evening. Cabins are smaller than a hotel room but larger than you’d find on a typical sailing yacht. A bath towel, hand towel and beach towel are provided.

The bar, galley and salon are located in the wheelhouse where there are stunning 360° views. With plenty of sunbeds on the fore and aft decks choose how to relax; sunbathing, reading, chatting or perhaps you’ll even sleep here under the stars. There’s plenty of time to swim and snorkel too.

Meals are taken on the aft deck where you’ll enjoy a different view with every meal.

Many departures are on our gulet East Meets West. All other departures are on other carefully selected gulets.

Trip Grading: Low Intermediate. Most of our hikes are along goat trails which are rocky and stony so graded mainly at intermediate level. However, the walks are too short to be classed as Intermediate.
How long are the walks? Hikes vary between 4 and 10 km and take between 2 hours and 4.5 hours for the longest walks.
How difficult are the walks? There are some steep sections over loose trails during the walk and such sections require care. The accent is on keeping a comfortable pace with time to stop and take photos. You will need a reasonable level of fitness to participate fully in this adventure.
What to bring?
Essential Hiking
boots (preferably with ankle support). Refillable Water Container or Camelbag. Day Backpack for water, sunscreen, camera etc
Recommended Hiking poles are extremely useful regardless of your level of fitness.
You will be provided with a full list with your joining instructions around 5 weeks before departure.
